Chronic musculoskeletal conditions: Osteoarthritis

Around 2.1 million people, 8.3 per cent of the population, were estimated to be living with osteoarthritis in Australia in 2022, from self-reported data in the 2022 ABS National Health Survey, affecting 10 per cent of females and 6.1 per cent of males. In 2021-22 there were 242,000 hospitalisations with a principal diagnosis of osteoarthritis, including 53,500 knee replacements and 35,500 hip replacements performed to treat osteoarthritis.
