36,626 government hospitals, 30,125 rural and 6,501 urban, with 840,455 beds, 307,552 rural and 532,903 urban, as at 31 December 2022. Government hospitals only, covering central, state and local government bodies. Private-sector beds are excluded and no all-India private bed count is published, so this is a floor rather than a national total. The publication also carries 161,829 sub centres, 31,053 primary health centres, 6,064 community health centres, 1,275 sub-divisional hospitals and 767 district hospitals as at 31 March 2023, and separately reports 27,031 hospitals empanelled under the public insurance scheme, of which 11,673 private and 15,358 public. It contains no acute bed split, no occupancy series and no length-of-stay series.
