36,626 (government hospitals, 2022). GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS ONLY (central + state + local government bodies) as on 31.12.2022. CBHI publishes no count of private hospitals in India. The only private-hospital number in NHP-2023 is scheme-scoped: Table 4.6 (p.201, 'Key Performance Indicators related to AB PM-JAY as on 01.05.2023', source National Health Authority) reports 27,031 hospitals empanelled under PM-JAY, of which 11,673 private and 15,358 public - that is empanelment under one insurance scheme, NOT a register of all private hospitals. Counted separately in NHP-2023 as on 31.03.2023: 161,829 Sub Centres, 31,053 PHCs, 6,064 CHCs, 1,275 sub-divisional hospitals and 767 district hospitals (Tables 6.2.1/6.2.1(a)).
