11,027 total knee arthroplasties were implanted in 2024, up from 9,777 in 2023 and 7,794 in 2022, with 163,781 conventional total knee arthroplasties registered since 1999 and an overall TKA revision rate of 0.41 per 100 component-years; in 2024, 241 surgeons performed 10,647 of those knees across 54 hospitals, 27 public and 27 private. On the hip side, 11,078 total hip arthroplasties were performed in 2024, a 5 per cent increase over 2023, by 267 surgeons in 55 hospitals, with 194,537 recorded since 1999 and an overall revision rate of 0.64 per 100 component-years. Combined, 22,105 hip and knee replacements in New Zealand in 2024.
