Number of Persons With Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis in the US: Impact of Race and Ethnicity, Age, Sex, and Obesity

About 14 million US adults aged 25 and over have symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, of whom 1.7 million are under 45, 6.1 million are 45 to 64 and 6.0 million are 65 and over. More than half are younger than 65. Built from National Health Interview Survey 2007 to 2008 prevalence combined with the Osteoarthritis Policy simulation model, NHANES obesity rates and Census population estimates, so it is a modelled estimate on inputs now nearly two decades old.
