For CY2018 CMS removed total knee arthroplasty from the Inpatient Only list along with five other procedures, and precluded Recovery Audit Contractors from conducting site-of-service reviews of outpatient total knee arthroplasty for two years. This is the origin of the American site-of-care question for the procedure.
